El Sistema de Salud de Colombia: Estructura, Modelos de Gestión, Logros y Desafíos Actuales
- SPAN 4180 -
This artifact is a literature review which was conducted for the course titled Technical Spanish for Health Management Professionals and analyzed the healthcare system of Colombia. This literature review evaluated the overall structure of Colombia’s healthcare system described by the model of organization, assessed its conditions and performance, and included recommendations for improvement based on the findings in the review. Completing this literature review significantly improved my Spanish writing proficiency, especially the technical aspects of healthcare such as administration and management. It also challenged me to research and write about a topic and use vocabulary that was unfamiliar like terminology relating to the decentralization of power and health insurance. As a result, I am more confident in using technical vocabulary in a medical setting. These new language skills will greatly contribute to my future career as it will allow me to help cross language barriers in healthcare by effectively communicating with patients and others in Spanish.

Análisis de los Determinantes Sociales que Influyen la Prevalencia de Enfermedades Infecciosas en las Comunidades Latinas en los Estados Unidos: Una Revisión de la Literatura Desde una Perspectiva Socioecológica
- SPAN 4190 -
This literature review will be conducted for the course (currently in progress) titled Health in the Hispanic Community. It will be intended to analyze the health determinants that influence the prevalence of infectious diseases among the Latin population in the United States. In addition to scholarly articles and studies that will be reviewed, the paper will also be based on the socio-ecological model. This literature review will greatly improve my Spanish health vocabulary and give me an opportunity to further develop my grammar with insightful feedback from my professor. In addition, exploring this specific topic of interest will deepen my understanding of the health of our Latin population in the United States and allow me to identify the many disparities they face in our healthcare system. Overall, this knowledge will help build on my cultural competence, push me to become a more equity-focused healthcare provider, and strengthen my Spanish language skills in order to communicate more effectively with those from Spanish-speaking communities.
